Day 9, 2022-01-05

Weather:

Clouds: 3/8

Wind: 10 m/s

Temp: 15 degrees

Distance: 101 km

Average distance: 55 km

Total distance: 498 km

Position: 34.199656,-10.712721

Health/emotions: Our hands are doing great (...thanks for asking! :-) ), the few blisters that appeared during the first days of rowing have now turned into callouses. Good cycling gloves are essential! Sören experienced some dizziness, reminding of the chrystal sickness he had ten years ago. It only occurs when lying down, so no problem while rowing. Will he sleep sitting tonight?

Description of the day

Måns was interviewed by Radio Kalmar over the sat phone in the morning, just as the stars handed over to another beautiful sunrise. This was our first whole day of northernly winds, it felt so good to push some real distance. Our first 100 km day! The forecast for the coming week looks promising, too. After sunset the wind picked up significantly, so we took shelter in the cabin.

Coalition Clean Baltic- Save the baltic porpoise

Marine mammals in temperate regions such as the Baltic build up a thicker blubber layer in preparation for the colder winter period, and are usually a little slimmer during summer. The blubber layer thickness can change very quickly both up and down by almost a centimeter per week if food intake and/or energy requirements change.

Aphorism

The will to win means nothing without the will to prepare.
