Weather:
Clouds: 3/8
Wind: 15 m/s
Temp: 15 degrees
Distance: 70 km
Average distance: 50 km
Total distance: 397 km
Position: 35.056139,-10.42594
Health/emotions: Tired after an intense day, but also happy to be rowing with the wind instead of against it.
Description of the day
During the night the wind started building up and pushing us north, so at four in the morning we set up the sea anchor to slow down the drift. Strong winds and big waves all morning, luckily around noon it shifted to northernly, and finally we had the wind with us! We got a few afternoon hours of fun bumpy rowing before it got dark and we set up to drift through the night. A few times we were surfing down the huge waves!
Coalition Clean Baltic- Save the baltic porpoise
Marine mammals, including the harbour porpoises, need to insulate their bodies to not lose too much body heat and hence energy to the surrounding water. They do this by building up a layer of fat under the skin called a blubber layer. In a porpoise in the Baltic Sea region this layer should be several centimetres thick.
